What
are classes like?
Six to twelve children ages birth through five and their parents
or caregivers (nanny, babysitter, grandparent) meet each week to
experience new songs, chants, small and large motor movement activities
and instrumental jam sessions. Both adults and children sit in a
circle and participate, led by a teacher. The teacher helps the
adults understand how to interact and play musically with their
child in class and at home. Playing with music is fun and nurtures
the childs musical ability. Children have many opportunities
to create and to play - making up rhythm patterns, making up new
words to songs, making up movements to express a sound.
The carefully
chosen folk songs, chants and original music are all pitched in
just the right range for childrens developing voices. Songs
in unusual meters and non-major tonalities provide a rich and varied
music experience.Children may or may not participate as they choose
and are given the freedom to respond according to their developmental
level. The class experience, reinforced by listening to CDs and
parent involvement, stimulates learning at home through play.

Why
are infants in the same class with older children?
Classes are mixed ages from birth through five. A childs
music development benefits greatly from early exposure as an infant.
The older children benefit by having the opportunity to be leaders
in the mixed age classroom. Activities focus on adult/child interaction
rather than child/child, so children of different ages (such as
siblings) can enjoy classes together. Sibling discount is available.

How
long is the class?
All classes meet once a week for ten weeks and are
45 minutes long. The exception is the summer semester where classes
meet once a week for six weeks.

What
if the class I want to register for is full?
If you are interested in a class that is currently full you can
call our office or email us to be placed on our waitlist. It's in
your best interest to be put on a waitlist -- many times families
will switch out of a particular class at the last minute. If a spot
opens in your desired class before the third week of the semester
you will be notified.

Can
I join the class that my friend is already in?
Yes, that's possible. Though you may have joined Music Together
with a friend (and want to be in the same class with him or her),
chatting during class is discouraged -- we do our best to create
a musical 45 minutes for children and their parents, and
our emphasis is placed on the relationship between parent and child,
not child/child (or parent/parent). It is not a playgroup atmosphere.
So if the class your friend is enrolled in is full, don't give up
the idea of taking a Music Together class with your child!

What
is the policy on refunds and credits?
Full
payment is due with registration, including a registration fee of
$10 per new family. Registration fees are non-refundable. No tuition
refunds given after registration deadline. Credit towards a future
semester given if you withdraw before the first class. Partial credit
may be given if you withdraw after the first class only in exceptional
circumstances.

If
we miss a class, can we make it up?

are allowed on a space-available basis. During our summer semester,
two make-ups are allowed on a space-available basis. Make-ups must
be taken within the current semester.

How
do I schedule a make-up?
Make-ups
are scheduled online using Make Up Scheduler.

How
can I learn more about my child's musical development?
In addition to
the parent guide which all families receive with their paid tuition,
teachers take time during class to point out key developmental points
as they arise throughout the semester.

What
sets Music Together apart from other children's music education
programs?
Music
Together does not organize class content around themes and ages
as other programs do. These themes are more apt to reflect an adult's
concept of music education than a childs way of experiential
learning. Music Together provides many and varied experiences, with
very little explanation or directed teaching.
